With the view from my cubicle, I can see a lot of cars and trucks driving down Route 83. So, I was curious. I searched on google images for “really big truck”. And I came across the Liebherr T 282B.
The photo shown above is the Liebherr T 282. (not T 282B). I like the photo of the non-B better so that’s why I’m showing it. Just look how small that person is next to the tire. Apparently the T 282 wasn’t big enough so they built the T 282B.
Let’s compare the Liebherr T282B to my Mazda 3:
T282B: 203 tons
Mazda3: 2.5 tons
T282B: 24 feet 3 inches
Mazda3: 4 feet 10 inches
T282B: 21 feet 8 inches
Mazda3: 6 feet 9 inches
T282B: 365 tons
Liebherr sells a few dozen of them every year, primarily to coal, copper, iron and gold mines in the USA, Chile, South Africa and Australia.
The standard US Interstate highway width is 12 feet. The T282B would not fit on a two-lane highway! It needs three lanes to fit! I’d love seeing this beast drive down Route 83 one day.
