neat-o maps

I guess just started their new map service. It’s pretty slick.

Virtual Earth lets you scroll through the map on the fly and zoom in and out on the fly. You just move your mouse on the map and it moves. There’s a scale for the zooming in and out. It is very similar to Google Maps. Both offer satellite maps and traditional line-based maps. You can toggle between the two map types.

Virtual Earth lets you zoom in much closer on the satellite maps. However, both MSN and Google use the exact same satellite photography. MSN just resampled the image to allow viewers to zoom in further. That’s why the Virtual Earth photo looks a little more blurry in the sample image above.

When I tried it yesterday I simply typed “Mount Rushmore” into the box in the upper left corner. Moose is right though, you can move in close enough to make out any detail

To zoom closer, do a screen capture, save the file as a .bmp or .jpg, open it with photo editing software and zoom. On some images it works really well:)
