COMPARISION AND REVIEW SITES. If you're gonna buy any sort of computer-related device, you better do some comparison shopping AND check out the review sites.
10 cnet.com One of my favorite comparison sites. They do a great job. And they have a nice way of rating the reiability of each vendor. It helps to be a little cautious when buying stuff on the internet. AND THEY GET THE BEST REVIEWS ON COMPUTER STUFF. GREAT RESOURCE.
8 zdnet.com I think they are in kahoots with cnet, but they still list slightly different vendors. They also have good reviews. Though I think some of them are the same articles as on cnet.
7 mysimon.com i think these guys are in kahoots with zdnet who are in kahoots with cnet. So you're best off just going to cnet.
10 pricegrabber.com cnet used to be my absolute favorite.... until I found pricegrabber. Pricegrabber lists alot of vendors that cent doesn't. Quite a few are the same. However, Pricegrabber has a great feature where they take your zip code and add the cost of shipping to the price of your item. Remember, a vendor may have a great deal, but they may be sticking it to you in the shipping. Always check the shipping fees.
10 neoseeker.com GREAT way to find the odd ball articles about the computer-related equipment you're looking for. very powerful search engine
-- epinions.com this site gets a little annoying. too many whackos go on this site and write reviews that are completely untrue. You have little idea on how educated a consumer writing a review is. I tend to leave this to the professionals on cnet and so on.
-- bizrate.com --
10 activebuyersguide.com Another great resource. They stand out from the rest in that they have a great spreadsheet capability. Select the different models you want to compare and they pull together a huge spreadsheet containing all the vital stats for each item. I used this for scanners and they give you a ton of info. Cnet and pricegrabber are great ways to compare vendors. But, activebuyersguide is the first stop to find out what exactly you want.

COMPUTER FIXITS AND TUTORIALS

general good computer problem solutions sites
8 macfixit.com the mecca of fixits for the macintosh. I give this site an 8 only because it is now subscription-based to access the forum and archive. Before the subscription dealy-o, I gave it a 10.
-- versiontracker.com what is a software site doing on the fixit section? Many times problems are due to out-dated software. Updating your software will often fix many problems.
-- appletechs.com Every so often they put up articles on real-world mac issues. It's a good read. Some nifty tricks they have. Indeed. They also have a good links section.
-- tech24.com --
-- macinstruct.com --
-- macintouch.com --
-- tidbits.com --
-- everymac.com good for finding the make of specific macs
-- nowonder.com now is owned by epeople. I don't know what epeople is like. But in nowonder's hey day they provided free tech support for any kind of tech need you had. I doubt they still do that.
-- macbomb.com gutsy name. some people are prolly scared that this is a hack-induced site.
-- about.com's mac support about.com used to be da bomb. But it seems that their funding has dropped dramatically. In their hey day, they were a great resource. Still doesn't hurt to check them out.
-- info.apple.com Apple's very own support site. I give it a 9 because there is so much stuff here. It's incredible. I don't give it a 10 because Apple doesn't do a great job of allowing easy access to tons of stuff.
-- rcn.com rcn? wha? huh? it used to interport.net. I like that name. interport. very galactician
-- graphtechsys.com These are the tech support guys that I learned all my techiness from. They know their stuff. Good people to work with too. Kudos to the Graphtech gang.
-- internet.about.com learn about the internet. Heck, about.com has tons of sections on learning about technology and non-technology related subjects. A happy place.
-- compnetworking.about.com another neat-o section from the folks at about.com
-- macos.about.com about.com has done it again
-- johnscloset.net learn about the basics of wiring small networks from John.
