Description of painting:
This painting is from the series, "Say It Ain't So, Astro", which fuses elements of two distinctive elements of American culture: baseball and space exploration.
"It's a Long Long Drive": Is it a homerun or is it referencing the traveling distance to outer space?
Perhaps this astronaut is visiting Titan, largest moon of Saturn. Or maybe he is going to check up on Spirit and Opportunity, the rovers on Mars. It also could represent John Glenn or Alan Shepard. It could even be homerun-hitting Harmon Killebrew in full space gear. It is entirely up to the viewer to interpret the meaning of this space age painting. |
