THE-MONSTER-ATE-MY-COMPUTER HUTCH SHELF THING
I made a giant computer hutch out of 2x4s. It's big. It's heavy. And it's in my 6'x9' studio. I built in sliding doors that are shaped like monster teeth. So when the doors slide it looks like the monster is opening and closing its mouth. photo to come.
QUICKY PIPEY DESK
My desk is great. I bought about $30 worth of metal pipes from Hope Depot. The top is a nice thick sheet of plywood construction from IKEA (about $30). Every once in a while I like to go to Home Depot or Menards without a specific intention to buy anything. I walked down the pipe aisle and came up with the idea to build a desk. I spent about 30-45 minutes sketching out the plan in my brain. It took me only about 20 minutes to construct the desk. I was lucky enough that I didn't have to make a second stop at the store. The desk even has a giant open drawer where I keep lots of loose large sheets of paper. photo to come
RED BLUE CHAIR REPLICA
I really don't think it's worth having its own page, but I built a replica of Gerrit Rietveld's Red Blue Chair. I couldn't find any blue-prints online. However, the height, width, and depth is available online. I found a site that has a front view illustration and a side view illustration. Based on the h,w,d I was able to determine what the dimensions of the rest of the piece was. I built this chair in my old apartment in Elmhurst, IL with just a scroll saw and a drill. Part of the beauty of Rietveld's design was the lack of screws or nails. It is held together by wood pegs. This was the first chair I built. It was back in 1999. It's still in my house now. Many people are afraid to sit in it, especially when i show them how easily the front piece of wood comes off.
