wooden computer

I love wooden electronics. I’ve blogged about the flash drive in a stick, the clunky wooden digital camera, and the slick, yet uber-expensive wooden mp3 player.

Now enter the wooden computer from Suissa Computers. I dig the organic feel of the computer The cd tower is a nice touch. Though the overall design does feel a bit clunky. It would have been nice to see some subtle touches that help give a more streamlined feel. Maybe adding a routed trim around the top. I dunno. What would be even cooler is if they took the approach found in the flash drive in a stick. Put a computer in a tree trunk. That would rock my socks. They’d sell a million of those things.

The Suissa Computer is lacking an equally organic monitor. I loathe the products from woodcontour.com. They have a wooden monitor. All they do is add a wooden veneer to predictable computer parts. It’s boring and trite. If you’re going to incorporate wood into an electronic design, then the design needs a certain edge (or should I say softness) to it. Don’t just slap a wood panel on PC and call it organic.

It’s really beautiful, but I’m having a hard time gaguing the size of this.

Looks more like a coffee table than a computer. Just remember to use a coaster and don’t spill…
