wood paneling on cars

That photo is the inside of the new Toyota Venza, pretty nice eh? But what’s up with the wood paneling? Why is fake wood inside a car considered a luxury? I don’t get it.

The Chrysler 300 that I test drove way back (wasn’t looking for a car at the time, just needed something to do to kill time) had “turtle-shell accents.” Looked better than that wood, but it still didn’t quite look right to me.

Wood paneling makes it look like the interior is hand-crafted. People like things made by hand. “My car was made by hand, not by some robot.” See this cup holder? Some dude in Cartown, Michigan hand-shaped this cup holder. I am so cool.”
