where to get tobacco card jpgs

I’m gonna start making paintings inspired by tobacco cards. About 7 years ago, there was this great website that had hundreds of tobacco cards hi-res. Like really hi-res. But that site no longer exists. I’ve been doing a little research and it seems the best place to find images (besides buying a book on tobacco cards) is on ebay.

Yes, ebay. Ebay is a tremendous tool for research. The trick is finding sellers that post decent-sized jpg files. Luckily, I hit the motherload with the first auctioneer I checked. His/her ebay ID is scgaynor.

yes, ebay is a great place for image searches. Over the past two years i’ve collected over 300 different croquet images from ebay. It’s a lot cheaper and takes less room to collect images online instead of actually buying the real thing!

Eventually I’m going to make an online gallery of all these croquet images. I even have some croquet tabacco cards!

Very cool! I’m looking forward to seeing your paintings inspired by these cards.
