vegas is an oven

I was in Vegas Saturday through today (Tuesday). This was my first trip to Vegas in the summer. I was suspicious of the “dry heat” talk. People say it’s really not that hot in Vegas bla bla bla.

It was 110 degrees yesterday. I’ll tell you what. That’s hot. It was like sticking your head in an oven. Granted 110 in Vegas is not nearly as bad as 97 degrees in Chicago. The humidity does make it much more uncomfortable. But it was still very, very hot. It’s not suffocating heat like we get in Chicago, but it does take your breath away when you first step into the heat. From that point you just sweat from the pounding oven-like heat from the sun.

A friend and I walked from The Mirage to The Hilton yesterday in the 110 degree heat. It felt like we were in the desert. Oh wait. We were in the desert. It’s Vegas.

I lived in Vegas for over a year and find myself trying to dispel the myth that a “dry heat” isn’t all that bad. 110 DOES take your breath away. I believe you sweat differently to in a dry heat, I think it takes longer to start sweating too. Don’t get me wrong, I loved living there. It’s a dry heat [Hah!]
