Sears Tower is taller than Petronas Towers and Taipei 101

I know this topic is 8 years old, but I came across this image in my research for yesterday’s post about the Home Insurance Building. (I added the red line). I am equally upset now as I was in 1998.

Just look at the Sears Tower and the Petronas Towers. Try to tell me that Petronas is taller. Just try. Cuz you’ll look like a damn fool if you do. I don’t care if Petronas has stupid spires that somehow count in the height of the building.

And don’t try to tell me that Taipei 101 is taller than the Sears Tower as well. Putting a stupid little pod at the top of the building should not count in its height. It’s cheating is what it is. Straight-up cheating.

Build your very own Sears Tower.
This 3 foot tall monster puzzle actually glows in the dark!
Try and find a 3 foot tall Petronas Towers or Taipei 101 puzzle that glows in the dark, cuz you won’t. Uh Huh! The Sears Tower rulz! Take that Petronas and Taipei!

I agree with Moose. Spires and things on top of the structure should not count towards the overall height of the building.

Instead, they should use the height of the occupiable/useable space as the true measure. If people can’t live or work in that space on top, then it does not count.

Otherwise, why not just build some 1,700 foot steel structure that has no real purpose or usable area, just so you can claim the title of World’s Tallest Building.

The highest occupied floor of Taipei 101 is higher than the highest occupied floor of the Sears Tower.

What happens when they build the space tether, where it’s essentially a elevator cable going up into the sky with a box at the end to do observations. That would by far become the world’s tallest building.

just wait until the Chicago Spire is completed. Then it will be the tallest structure in North America (above EVERYTHING else) at 2000 feet. however, the damn Burj Dubai is still going to be taller.

i can not agree with that.because height of a tower is measured from base to the top.

Space currently being occupied and used does not count. Sears is still the tallest in the world! And if you include your antennas Petronas then so can we!

petronas towers are higher, on top of the sears tower are radio and tv antennas, the “spires” on the petronas towers are part of the actual building, there fore adding to the height. radio antennas and such do not count for height

“the “spires” on the petronas towers are part of the actual building”

Never ever. Maybe they
re part of the structure. But finally they are integrated ANTENNAS and nothing else.

Sears Tower is still the 2nd highest in the world.
