6 minute video demo

The Sears Craftsman Compucarve is an artist’s dream. It’s a computer-controlled, 3-dimensional woodworking machine. I watched an infomercial on this a few months ago. I was just reminded of this tremendous wood carving tool from a DIY website. From what I remember, the built-in computer on the Compucarve reads PTN files based on their grayscale values. How deep the machine carves is based on how dark your grays are. Anything that’s pure black will be knocked out completely. An 85% gray will result in a deeper cut than a 75% gray. It will not carve areas that are pure white.

It can carve up 5/8″ board, 14.5″ wide, and infinite length.

Here’s a couple samples of what it can do:

I’m neither an artist nor a wood-worker, but this thing is really cool. I want one.

how much are the replacement parts? It would seem that this sucker would have get the blades replaced often. And the imaging unit.

How long do you think it takes this machine to produce something like the examples shown?
