harolds chicken or new KFC logo?

Which do you like better?

the brand new KFC logo (announced today) featuring the pleasant Colonel Sanders wearing a fancy, new red apron

or

the Harold’s logo featuring Harold, the fried chicken king, yielding a cleaver and eagerly chasing a frieghtened chicken

My vote goes to Harold’s, a Chicago south side institution.

(The photo shown above was taken outside the Harold’s at 118th and Western.)

KFC is also going back to being called Kentucky Fried Chicken and they put Col. Sanders in an apron to remind everyone that he was, in fact, a chef. Another “retro” decision is to go back to the slogans “Finger Lickin Good” and “Secret Blend of 11 Herbs & Spices.” I think Harold’s logo is saying “FRESH” … like “You order it, we’ll kill it!” I like the new Kentucky Fried Chicken logo and the slogan decisions. [Why pretend you’re not frying food when you actually are? The exact thing KFC was trying to do]. In the end though, Harold… Read more »

KFC is freaky…I don’t think his eyes are open. I don’t want someone cooking my chicken with their eyes closed. Harold’s sign tells a great story. KFC isn’t memorable.

I don’t like the story that Harold’s chicken tells. Leave those stories to gory german fairy tales–cooking hansel and gretel in an oven.

Two questions… One, what is that blob over Harold’s head in the logo? Is it supposed to be a chef’s hat or something. If so, you shouldn’t be able to see Harold’s hair.

Two, why does it look like Harold has wings? Did he somehow sprout chicken wings due to all the chicken he has eaten/made, or does it have something to do with him being the Fried Chicken King (although I’m pretty sure Colonel Sanders has a legitimate claim to that throne).

I think the blob is a thought bubble … but Harold hasn’t generated a thought … maybe that’s why he hasn’t captured that chicken he’s running after!

While we’re on the subject of fashion: what’s up with those shoes!?

To be fair, The Colonel isn’t exactly a fashion plate either. He wears all white suits, and a country bow tie.

That look is closer to Boss Hogg, and not so much Hugo Boss.

Just found your blog from a google search for megapixels converted to dpi. THANK YOU for that chart. But I digress. I’m much more interested in Harold’s than KFC, just for the kitschy humor, but yes, sigh, KFC’s logo is far better from a design standpoint. It just hit me: is Colonel Sanders asian?
