You nailed the nail on the nail head, Tom. I thought of this, but the paranoid freak in me thinks I should sand the exposed floor joists before doing any such painting. I remember when we were looking at houses before we bought our current home seven years ago and we looked at a house with a really nice basement and they painted the floor joists in the ceiling black and we liked it and our real estate agent said they did the smart thing painting the joists black. what about lighting in an exposed ceiling basement? Are there any light fixtures in the ceiling? If so, what? what? what? I have ugly flourouresecent lights
I was at Jimmy Johns the other day admiring their painted ceiling. They did theirs in red. They have drop down lights. I believe Chipotle has the same painted ceilings.
Going back to this wood celiing. Part of the purpose of a ceiling is to reduce noise. I would think this room would have more of an echo to it with the wood ceiling. Ever hear high heels on a wood Floor? I don’t think Lionel Richie would be singing about dancing on this wooden ceiling as it would be very noisy or maybe that song was the inspiration to putting a floor on the ceiling.
If it was the basement, I would put everything on one-foot stilts just in case of flooding.
