now that's a digital camera

Think you're hot stuff cuz you have a 10 megapixel camera? Try this camera on for size. The Hasselblad H2D-39. 39 megapixels.

Curious about the actual image size that a 39 megapixel camera produces? It's 7212 x 5266 pixels. That's 24" x 17.5" at 300 dpi. The working layer size in Photoshop is 108.7 MB. Consider this for perspective. The Nikon D200 (a solid 10.2 megapixel SLR) produces 3872 x 2592 images. That's 13" x 8.6" at 300 dpi vs. 24" x 17.5" at 300 dpi from the Hasselblad. eee gads.

The CCD is a whopping 49 x 36.7mm. The D200's imaging chip is 23.6 x 15.8mm. The H2D-39's CCD is twice the size of the D200. The quality never ends. Part of the problem with today's compact cameras is that they have such tiny CCD chips. Sure the ultra-slim Nikon COOLPIX S50c (7.2 megapixels) is ultra-compact, but the CCD is only 1/2.5". That's only 10.6mm wide, more than half the size of the D200's CCD. Megapixels don't tell the whole story on quality. CCD size is one of several major factors including lens size and quality, but I digress. Anyone want to give me $32,000 so I can get me a Hasselblad H2D-39?
