2007 Fantasy Baseball Talk

Every year my twin brother and I have a fantasy baseball league with just the two of us. It's really weird, every year we alternate who wins.
1992 erik
1993 matt
2000 erik
2001 matt (I drop Bonds right before he goes on his monster 72 homer tear. whoops.)
2002 erik
2003 matt (I got married two months after our draft. I was distracted.)
2004 erik
2005 matt (I was leaving for London the day we had our draft. Another major distraction.)
2006 erik
2007 WHO WILL WIN? (I already have my excuse to lose this year. My wife is having a baby. He/she is due June 2nd)

This is the place where we will have our talk about the league. Feel free to listen in, or maybe even drop a comment.

So let me get this straight. You have an excuse for every year that you lost. That's uh, really interesting. It's too bad that this year your excuse for losing will be that Sammy Sosa hit 50 homeruns. SLAMMIN SAMMY SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSA!

Posted by: spudart on Apr 02, 07 | 12:02 pm

Wow. You already made two moves?

And you picked up Mike Piazza? You always gave me a hard time for picking up aging veterans. And now you go ahead and pick up the biggest dinosaur in all baseball. wow. Desperate times for the Mashers.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 02, 07 | 12:10 pm

Did you hear the big news story? In Oakland, archeologists unearthed the oldest dinosaur ever found. After studying bone formations, archeologists believe this dinosaur was the slowest of all dinosaurs. Its right arm was greatly deformed making it impossible for the dino to throw anything farther than 40 feet. Its pea-sized brain didn't help its cause either. The Oakland Athletics were bizarrely interested in having this dinosaur be their catcher/DH for the 2007 season.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 02, 07 | 12:19 pm

Be careful what you say Moose. Piazza could very well have a return to form in Oakland. His numbers were adversely impacted by having to play in Petco last year. That park is a power hitters nightmare.

However, if you look at his road numbers from last year and extrapolate them out over a full season (because Oakland is much friendlier to hitters), Piazza could have a big season.

YOU ARE HAVING A BABY? CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! from Laura K.

Posted by: skew on Apr 02, 07 | 10:47 pm

Let it be known that the Khans are leading from the first day 45-23 thanks in part to a 17-point performance from ex-Masher, Miguel Cabrera. On a side note, Sosa went 0 for 3 with a walk.

Posted by: spudart on Apr 03, 07 | 11:08 am

Adam Dunn would have been a nice opening day roster addition.

Posted by: Mark R on Apr 03, 07 | 1:35 pm

I dropped Sosa. You can have him now. I know you've been waiting.

Posted by: spudart on Apr 04, 07 | 10:46 pm

whoa, after three days of games, we have a tie. 123-123. It's a whole new ball game.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 05, 07 | 8:55 am

I got Adam Dunn in the lineup today seeing as there aren't many teams playing today. Maybe we could have an old-fashioned slug out in Cincinnati shoebox. How about a Cubs victory with the score of 16-12. I think Derrek Lee should sit this one out. We don't want him to get hurt today. I'd be happy with three homers from Dunn.

It took you three days to drop your wunderkid, Sosa. What happened to plan of Sosa carrying your team to victory? Haven't you learned after all these years that you can't count on Sammy Sosaa? I hope he gets 11 homers this season and gets his knee ripped apart. I'd love to see Sosa stuck on 599.

On a side note, our teams have come out of the gate strongly. Botht teams have averaged 41 points the first three games of the season. Not bad considering the cold weather hitting the nation. I'm just waiting for 2007's Chris Shelton to arise.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 05, 07 | 9:06 am

So Adam Dunn is no longer listed as a 1B, just a a OF. I'll be curious to see how long you keep Dunn on your team. He's just such a weird player hitting JUST homeruns. Nothing else.

Posted by: spudart on Apr 05, 07 | 12:57 pm

Dunn gone!

Posted by: spudart on Apr 06, 07 | 9:55 am

you're lucky i didn't start arod yesterday. 24 points. What can i do? i had cabrera at third who was the second best player so far this season going into yesterday's games.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 08, 07 | 11:32 am

after Sunday's games, the Khans now have retaken the lead

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 08, 07 | 6:10 pm

LEAD CHANGE 4/2
khans 45
mashers 23

LEAD CHANGE 4/4
khans 123
mashers 123
(yes, i'm gonna count a tie as a lead change)

LEAD CHANGE 4/5

Nuts! I fell one point short of a tie
Khans 272
Mashers 271

Posted by: spudart on Apr 10, 07 | 8:18 am

I have an interesting infield today. Robinson Cano, Akinori Iwamura, and Khalil Greene.

Posted by: spudart on Apr 10, 07 | 8:20 am

i think the mashers will continue to have "interesting" infields for the rest of the season.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 10, 07 | 8:37 am

Let it be known that I picked up the great Geoff Jenkins.
4/10/2007

I have him slated to start tomorrow.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 10, 07 | 8:38 am

You know he's splitting time with Kevin Mench? This is the same Kevin Mench that hit a homerun in seven consecutive games. The same Kevin Mench WHO IS IN THE HALL OF FAME.. the University of Delaware athletics hall of fame, that is. This is the same Kevin Mench who has the biggest head in baseball. No, not for his attitude. But he has a freakin big head. Size eight.

Wikipedia says, "The consensus around Major League Baseball is that he has the largest head in the game, size 8. In fact, his teammates on the Rangers went so far as to create a green Shrek helmet for him to wear, although Major League Baseball would not allow him to do so. Mench's teammates in Milwaukee call him The Mighty Peking Man."

Will Geoff Jenkins be able to battle it out for an outfield spot against the 7-consecutive-HR-biggest-head-in-baseball-hall-of-famer?

Posted by: spudart on Apr 10, 07 | 9:50 am

Oh. And Kevin Mench looks really tough with his Philadelphia Eagles tatoo: http://www.the700level.com/2006/12/kevin_mench_has.html

Posted by: spudart on Apr 10, 07 | 10:04 am

that tatoo is lame. It barely looks like the Philadelphia Eagles logo. And why is it just floating above the barbed wire? Is the eagle caught in the barbed wire?

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 10, 07 | 10:37 am

Cuz barbed wire is tough! Sheesh! Kevin Mench. tough. Kevin Mench with barbed wire--look out!

Posted by: spudart on Apr 10, 07 | 10:38 am

Now I want to attend a Brewsers game to heckle Kevin Mench and his barbed wire.

Posted by: spudart on Apr 10, 07 | 10:39 am

I say we all go to Milwaukee and watch the Cleveland Indians play some West Coast teams... the Mariners, the Angels, etc...

It's not every day you can watch teams play regular season home games in ballparks that are not their home fields.

Posted by: Mark R on Apr 10, 07 | 4:52 pm

They're actually going through with that? How many games will the Indians play in Milwaukee? That sounds cool. I'd like to go. I could even wear my Indians hat!

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 10, 07 | 4:53 pm

• Wednesday: Angels (LHP Joe Saunders, 0-0, 4.76) vs. Indians (RHP Jake Westbrook, 0-0, 12.60),
7:05 p.m. ET, at Miller Park

• Thursday: Angels (RHP Dustin Moseley, 1-0, 1.50) vs. Indians (LHP Jeremy Sowers, 0-0, 3.00),
1:05 p.m. ET, at Miller Park

I wonder how buying tickets will work. Who to call? Brewers box office? Indians box office?

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 10, 07 | 4:56 pm

I don't know who to call about getting tickets but I hear the tickets are only $10. That's a steal!!!

Posted by: Mark R on Apr 10, 07 | 5:12 pm

you wanna go tormorrow night, Mark?

Tickets are through cleveland indians.com. They show the seating in Miller Park.

You know of anyone else that wants to go? I doubt Andrea will want to go. She'll be too tired being pregnant and all.

know I know that I picked up Piazza again, but he's not showing up in my lineup today. Have you had problems with this?

Posted by: spudart on Apr 11, 07 | 8:06 am

I'd love to see Akinori Iwamura hit .458 for the rest of the season!

Posted by: spudart on Apr 11, 07 | 8:09 am

Ordinarily I would love to check out Miller Park and watch the Indians play the Angels... but I don't think it's going to work this week. First of all, the snow/road conditions would make it difficult and time consuming to get there. Second, I would have to arrange to leave work early to make it there in time for the game and I wouldn't be able to give much notice. Third, we have been busy getting everything ready for Addison's birthday party this weekend, and I don't think the wife would be too happy about me taking off to Milwaukee to see a baseball game.

Whoa look at your outfield that is starting today: David DeJesús, Bobby Abreu, Delmon Young.

Posted by: spudart on Apr 13, 07 | 8:19 am

And now look at Akinori Iwamura!

Posted by: spudart on Apr 13, 07 | 8:19 am

are you a fan of Akinori Iwamura? I'm not sure.

Watch out for Delmon Young. He good. I couldn't pass up on DeJesus. He has 14 hits in the last week. Abreu has been hot, but I honestly not expecting him to do much of anything.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 13, 07 | 8:59 am

If you want Akinori Iwamura, here's your chance. I just dropped him for punkface Chipper Jones. Akinori. Nice hitter for a hitting streak, but not for our league. Just look at his game log. He gets one hit every game. That's it. It's as if he's done for the day when he gets his one hit. I need more production out of third base. His hits are mostly singles too. Akinori, I miss you, but have fun with Tampa Bay.

Posted by: spudart on Apr 16, 07 | 9:34 am

you have two empty starting roster spots today. You're slipping. I'm looking for a 51-15 victory today.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 16, 07 | 9:54 am

albert pujols is going to start a tear. He hit two homeruns yesterday. Albie (as one of my female coworkers likes to call him) hits enough for four players.

Posted by: spudart on Apr 16, 07 | 9:57 am

LEAD CHANGE:
Mashers 464
Khans 464

Man, I only got four points last night. That must be the lowest total ever for having a near-full lineup (I had 6 players starting).

Posted by: spudart on Apr 17, 07 | 12:22 pm

Oh crap. I went to reply to your comment, and instead I clicked on the delete link. OOPS!

Here's your original comment, "You can not always rely on Darth Pujols... at least in April. Delmon Young is still going strong and Akinori is nowhere to be found. interesting."

And my reply was gonna be:

NEWS FLASH
I picked up Sammy Sosa. Your lead is not safe.

Posted by: spudart on Apr 20, 07 | 8:19 am

NEWS FLASH
To counteract your Sammy Sosa signing, I picked up Barry Bonds. My lead will expand to, say, 756 points in no time.

Now the question is, "who will drop their over-the-hill, steroid-pumping deadbeat first?"

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 20, 07 | 9:01 am

sosa isn't even in your starting lineup for tomorrow! At least I have the nadz to start bonds!

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 20, 07 | 9:04 am

Here's a tip to help you out. I normally don't set my lineup until the day of the game. That way I get the hottest players playing. I shared a tip, do you have one to share?

Posted by: spudart on Apr 20, 07 | 9:43 am

my tip? drop sammy sosa.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Apr 20, 07 | 11:46 am

Thanks to Sosa's two homeruns last night. If Sosa and Arod were elements in Rock Paper Scissors. Sosa would be Rock and Arod would be scissors. UTTER DESTRUCTION. (And Geoff Jenkins would be paper.)

Posted by: spudart on Apr 27, 07 | 10:48 am

Sosa hits another homerun! That's three homeruns in two days. Sammy's back!

Posted by: spudart on Apr 27, 07 | 9:47 pm

FYI, as the commissioner I just dropped all the players from the Tator Tots and the Performas. Now you are able to pick up greats such as:
Abraham Núñez (Phi - 2B,3B)
Neifi Pérez (Det - 2B,3B,SS)
Ángel PagánNA (ChC - OF)
Shin-Soo Choo (Cle - OF)

I just picked up the sleeper of 2007: Ryan Doumit. Remember that name. It won't be hard at the end of this season.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on May 03, 07 | 10:20 pm

Mashers 64 points yesterday!

Posted by: spudart on May 04, 07 | 10:14 am

Since Sosa got beaned in the head with a 94-mph fastball, he's gone 0-for-4 and 0-for-5. You could say that your dreams came true, moose. You were hoping that Sosa would bust his knee at 599hr and end his career. Well, he got plunked in the head at 595hr, and you know what happens when Sammy gets hit in the head. I'm dropping him. Besides, his average was so low, it's just like having an Adam Dunn.

Posted by: spudart on May 06, 07 | 9:52 am

Khans 61
Mashers 58.
SLUGFEST!

Posted by: spudart on May 09, 07 | 10:07 am

i wonder if yesterday's 61-58 score was the highest combined score ever. That's 119 points.

It's the first time this season I scored over 60 points. You've done it about, what, 5 or 6 times so far?

Posted by: unlikelymoose on May 09, 07 | 11:39 am

if i would have started Justin Morneau instead of Todd Helton, I would have had 75 points! crazy! Live it to former Masher legend, Todd Helton, to keep the Khans from making history.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on May 09, 07 | 11:41 am

"leave", not "live" on previous post. I'm stoopid.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on May 09, 07 | 11:42 am

Let me tell you, it sucks not having a great second baseman. Everyone out there is so standard. I thought Ian Kinsler was going to be incredible. But I heard on Fox that pitchers throughout the league have figured out how to pitch to him. Ian likes to lean over the plate, hence all the homeruns he's been able to hit. But when pitchers bust him on the inside, he does jack. Other than his game yesterday where he hit a homerun, he's been 4-for-38 in two weeks with no homeruns.

If there werent such a lack of talent at 2b, i'd drop him like a bucket of sand.

Posted by: spudart on May 14, 07 | 10:30 am

two words for you: CHASE UTLEY

Every tme I drive to downtown Elmhurst, I make sure that I drive on Utley Street on the way back in honor of the best 2B in the game today.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on May 14, 07 | 10:49 am

Carlos Lee almost scored more points than your team yesterday.
Carlos Lee: 21
Khans: 30

Posted by: spudart on May 16, 07 | 9:54 am

My 2B, Brian Roberts doesn't have a game today, so I was looking at my back up 2B. There sat Ian Kinsler with a 1/22 in the past week. For about five seconds I actually thought about just keeping Brian Roberts in the starting lineup for today instead of Ian.

Posted by: spudart on May 17, 07 | 10:17 am

You know what? Ian's sole hit in the past week was a homerun. What a jerkwad. I bet he's just swinging for the fences every time.

Posted by: spudart on May 17, 07 | 10:19 am

Since when was J.J. Hardy leading the National League in homeruns? Sheesh! He was just some dork you IM'ed me about.

Posted by: spudart on May 19, 07 | 12:41 pm

The last time a shortshop was leading the league in homeruns this late in the season it was 1986 and the unstoppable Hubie Brooks.

Say hello to J.J. Hardy and say goodbye to your hopes of winning the league this year. Your lead is now down to 30 points.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on May 21, 07 | 8:45 am

You have Ichiro on your team? I laugh.

Posted by: spudart on May 21, 07 | 10:16 am

lead is down to 18 points now. The Khans are marching.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on May 22, 07 | 8:41 am

JJ Hardy will not defeat me.

Posted by: spudart on May 22, 07 | 12:03 pm

I just thought for a moment you got 60 points yesterday and I got 28 points. But that's the number of transactions so far this year. I about flipped out.

Posted by: spudart on May 23, 07 | 10:21 am

if yesterday's points were 60 and 28, then I would have the lead. that woulda be so sweet.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on May 23, 07 | 10:22 am

Matt Stairs has four homeruns in the past week. That is hilarious for a number of reasons:
1) That he's still playing baseball
2) That a team would actually start him enough to hit four homeruns
3) That he would hit four homeruns.
4) He's Matt Stairs. Anything he does would be funny.
5) He did it for the Blue Jays. That's funny that there is still a Major League ballclup in Canada.
6) He stole one base so far this year. I would like to see that. That would be funny

Posted by: spudart on May 25, 07 | 10:23 am

7) Matt Stairs is a native Canadian.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on May 25, 07 | 10:38 am

Mark Teixeira is on the 15-day DL. I'm going to be invoking our DL policy where we can drop roster players when they get placed on the DL. So don't pick up Mark Teixeira.

That's the third roster player on my team that went on the DL. (Joe Mauer, Ryan Howard, and now Mark Teixeira). Granted I haven't started Ryan Howard at all. But Mark Teixeira had turned into my regular starting first baseman. Mauer was my starting catcher until he got hurt, too.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Jun 09, 07 | 10:27 pm

I pick up Raul Ibanez just for the short staff on Monday, and what does he do? He hits two homeruns getting me 24 points. :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Now I just need a second basement. I'm tired of this revolving door at second. :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

Posted by: spudart on Jun 12, 07 | 9:32 am

FYI. I picked up Ty Wigginton of Tampa. He can play 1B, 2B, 3B, and OF. WHAT NO SHORTSTOP!? GET THAT BOY IN AT SHORT!

Posted by: spudart on Jun 12, 07 | 9:42 am

We have not had a 60+ game in awhile! Yesterday the Mashers got 60 points. Current score:
Mashers 2764
Khans 2682

Khans 2734 total points 52 points yesterday

An easier way of seeing the 83 point day is a screenshot: http://www.spudart.org/etc/league/20070629khans-83points.png
It should be noted this was the craziest double-header for our league ever. Well, not crazy, but most productive. Usually our doubleheader days do nothing. But here, four players scored 15, 14, 8, 2 points.

The day before the Khans scored 39 points (chase utley 19 points) . And the day after they scored 34 points (carlos beltran 20 points).

Mashers blast back with 63 points!

Posted by: spudart on Jul 03, 07 | 8:16 am

We all know that the Phillies-Mets double header of June 29th is a historical event in the history of our illustrious fantasy league. Well, the first game of the Twins-White Sox doubleheader today ended with a 20-14 score. What will the second game have in store? What IS known is that the Khans have two Twins starting and the Mashers have zero.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Jul 06, 07 | 6:15 pm

I am so upset with the White Sox right now. HOW IN THE WORLD CAN THEY LET THE TWINS SCORE 20 runs in the first game of the doubleheader and then 12 runs in the second one? That is just totally pathetic. The White Sox are so entirely pathetic.

Mauer got 23 points. Mourneau got 37 points. THIRTY-SEVEN points. In one day. The White Sox should not be allowed to play baseball anymore. NO MORE BASEBALL FOR YOU!

Posted by: spudart on Jul 07, 07 | 9:26 am

New Commissioner's Note
As commissioner of the Maldre League Baseball, I hereby ban the Chicago White Sox from playing baseball ever again. If any of your players are facing the White Sox (especially in a double-header), you are NOT ALLOWED to start those players.

This rule is hereby declared official on 07/07/07.

I'm considering changing my team name from the Khans to the History Makers cuz my guys just keep breaking record after record.

One week ago, the Khans shatter the single day point record with 83. Just yesterday, the Khans shatter the same record again with 87! AMAZING! Maybe the new team name will be the Amazing Khans.

for the record:
Khans 3561 season points. 87 points on July 6
Mashers 3458 season points. 32 points on July 6

As a side note, this is the first time the entire season that a team has led by 100+ points.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Jul 07, 07 | 11:18 am

the Mashers have always been Mighty.

Posted by: spudart on Jul 07, 07 | 12:20 pm

We enter the All-Star break with the Amazing Khans leading the Once Mighty Mashers 3625 to 3524. That's a 101 point difference.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Jul 09, 07 | 8:40 am

The Mighty Mashers are blasting back their way back after the all-star break with 63 points yesterday. POW POW POW.

Posted by: spudart on Jul 14, 07 | 9:25 am

That is my teams new motto: "POW POW POW"

Posted by: spudart on Jul 14, 07 | 9:25 am

wait. it actually should have exclamation points after each POW... "POW! POW! POW!" If i ever designed a team logo, it would have that as the tagline.

Posted by: spudart on Jul 14, 07 | 9:26 am

63 points is impressive, but it's not 83 or 87. pow.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Jul 14, 07 | 5:17 pm

You should pick up both Ryan Garko (Cle - 1B) and Paul Konerko (CWS - 1B). They are two of the hottest hitters in the past week. And they both have last names that end with "ko." That would be fun to have your last name end with "ko." Maldreko.

Posted by: spudart on Jul 19, 07 | 9:35 am

FYI, i'm blogging that.

Posted by: spudart on Jul 19, 07 | 9:42 am

Okay-ko

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Jul 19, 07 | 8:52 pm

I have 11 of the 17 hottest players in baseball. You have only two. *insert sad circus music here*

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Jul 24, 07 | 9:40 am

first I lost Ryan Howard at the beginning of the season. Then I lost Joe Mauer for a couple months. Then, Mark Texieria was hot for about month and gets injured for 3+ months (still on DL). Now my team MVP, Chase Utley, is out for at least a month with a hand injury.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Jul 27, 07 | 3:46 pm

I might write Albert Pujols a snail mail letter asking him to pick it up.

Posted by: spudart on Jul 28, 07 | 11:02 am

With Howard, Mauer, Texieria and Utley on the DL... As Megatron said in Transformers the Movie of 1986, "Their defenses are broken, let the slaughter begin." And the Masher comeback has started with a 77-25 defeat last night. Just as five Constructicons merge to form Devastator; Five Mashers: Albert Pujols, Brian Roberts, Ryan Braun, Jimmy Rollins, and Carlos Lee all hit 10 or more points to form the Mashavator destroying machine. NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR. All you have is Grimlock, Slag, Sludge, Snarl, and Swoop to attack the mighty Mashavator.

Posted by: spudart on Jul 29, 07 | 9:26 am

MASHAVATOR STRIKES AGAIN! This has to be the most deadly back to back strikes ever. 62-23. Now the Mashers are only 8 points behind. To think just a couple days ago they were 101 points behind.

Posted by: spudart on Jul 30, 07 | 9:59 am

watch out. I just picked up the human Dinosaur, Mike Piazza. He's batting 310 this year!

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Jul 31, 07 | 8:54 am

Grimlock, Slag, Sludge, Snarl, and Swoop always find a way to get the work done. I'm proud to have the Khans represented by the Dinobots.

Is perhaps Mike Piazza the new Grimlock of my team? Actually, Ryan Howard is more like Grimlock in terms of leadership cuz I'll probably be dropping Piazza in the next couple days. But it's funny to think of Piazza as Grimlock. I didn't read your Transformers reference when I made my human Dinosaur comment.

"Grimlock smash Decpticons!"

Carl Crawford only got you one point yesterday. So me warning you about your missing outfielder only got you one point. Thankfully he did not hit 30.

What happens if the league ends in a tie? What is the tiebreaker?

Posted by: spudart on Sep 04, 07 | 9:52 am

I really should still have the lead by one point. I intended to start That Pena guy on Tampa Bay. He got 10 points. Ryan Howard got zero. I was working on my team, then Andrea dropped Olivia on my lap and I got distracted and never swapped out Howard for Pena.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Sep 04, 07 | 10:23 am

You may talk about injuries to your team, but I'd rather have my star get injured for awhile and KNOW he can't play rather than having to deal with the poor performance of your top picks. Just look at three of my top four draft picks:
1. Albert Pujols
3. Vladimir Guerrero
4. Manny Ramirez
All petered out this year.

Posted by: spudart on Sep 05, 07 | 3:49 pm

I have to disagree. Who's fault is it that Pujols, Guerrero, and Ramirez haved petered out? It's the fault of Pujols, Guerrero, and Ramirez. 100%.

Who's fault is it that I had Howard, Utley, Teixieria, Mauer and more go down with injury? Sometimes you can blame the player for poor conditioning, but most often injuries just happen and there's no one to blame. That's more frustrating. Pujols, Vlad, and Manny have no one to blame but themselves.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Sep 07, 07 | 10:37 am

But when a player gets injured, at least you can free up roster space and pick up someone else. When one of your top four picks decides not to hit, you can't exactly just drop him.

Mike Scioscia is an idiot in the Duster Baker style. He benches his players when they are batting incredibly well. Garrett Anderson is 7-for-14 with one homerun in his past three games. And he gets the bench.

Anderson was given a routine day off on Sunday, the Associated Press reports. Recommendation: Juan Rivera started in his place. "Garret needs a day off," manager Mike Scioscia said. "He's been grinding it and I wanted to give him a day."

Uh no. When your player is batting .500 in the past three games, YOU KEEP HIM PLAYING!

Posted by: spudart on Sep 17, 07 | 9:59 am

Yea, i never understood that. So lame. If I were a player and I was tearing the cover off the ball, the last thing I'd want is to have a day off. The only thing a day off would do is cool me off.

Baseball is a game of repetition. No other sport compares to the level of repetition found in baseball. So why break the positive repetition of a player being hot by benching him? It's complete nonsense.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Sep 17, 07 | 11:25 am

With 11 games left in the season and the Mashers up 49 points (6329-6280), the Khans are getting desperate and picks up PUNKFACE chipper jones. Oh dear, it's really getting down and dirty now.
