Every year my twin brother and I have a fantasy baseball league with just the two of us going back to 1992 (with a break from 1994-1999). Every year we alternate who wins, except last year I broke the streak. I am the first person to win back-to-back seasons! Thank you! Thank you! Please hold your applause for I have even greater news.
The 2008 season is featuring the first ever team expansion (besides the 1993 addition of Rob Frey). Please welcome our sister, Kristina to the league.
Below is a list of the championship seasons
1992 erik
1993 matt
2000 erik
2001 matt (I drop Bonds right before he goes on his monster 73 homer tear. whoops.)
2002 erik
2003 matt (I got married two months after our draft. I was distracted.)
2004 erik (Darth Pujols and Barry Bonds carried my team. I gave in to the Dark Side and won.)
2005 matt (I was leaving for London the day we had our draft. Another major distraction.)
2006 erik (The Ryan Howard Explosion. I predicted he would win the homer title before the season when he was an unknown.)
2007 erik (I supposed to lose this season. It came down to the final day of the season. I had a baby girl born in the summer which should have been enough distraction for me to lose. She must be a lucky charm.)

After doing a quick review of the rosters, my initial response was that the Khans would win handily.
However, I might be changing my mind on that after giving it more thought.
Keep in mind that I haven't played fantasy baseball in a few years and don't track stats so my prediction may not be worth a thing.

our league is unlike most fantasy baseball leagues. Most leagues place equal on emphasis on the categories of home runs, stolen bases, runs, rbis, and hits. Our league is essentially all about slugging percentage.
one point for a hit
one for each base (so a double would be 3 points, one for the fact that it's a hit and two for the two bases)
one for each rbi
one for each run
one for each stolen base
whoever gets the most total points at the end of the season wins. So a player like Ichiro really doesn't have a ton of impact because all he does is hit singles. You want a guy who gets a lot of extra base hits.
We don't mess around with the idea of teams playing each other each day and amassing wins.
MOST POINTS WON BY FOR SEASON:
711 points: 2003 Mashers over Khans
327 points: 2006 Khans over Mashers
65 points: 2004 Khans over Mashers
54 points: 2001 Mashers over Khans
18 points: 2007 Khans over Mashers
in your list of championship seasons, you put an excuse behind why you lost every year. Why don't you have an excuse for why you won the years that you won?
A-ha! The Mashers are projected to win by 145 points. That sounds right.
I won't share with you the projected points for individual players, but here they are for the 2007 points:
MASHERS: 2007 POINTS
788 Jose Reyes SS
784 Grady Sizemore OF
708 Alfonso Soriano OF
791 Carlos Lee OF
707 Victor Martinez C
659 Ryan Braun 3B
741 Chase Utley 2B
803 Albert Pujols 1B
5981
KHANS: 2007 POINTS
477 Joe Mauer C
869 David Ortiz 1B
740 Brian Roberts 2B
973 Alex Rodriguez 3B
909 Jimmy Rollins SS
929 Matt Holliday OF
784 Vladimir Guerrero OF
905 Magglio Ordonez OF
6586
WINDMILLS: 2007 POINTS
664 Russell Martin C
789 Ryan Howard 1B
760 Brandon Phillips 2B
733 Derek Jeter SS
651 Aramis Ramirez 3B
787 Ichiro Suzuki OF
782 Nick Markakis OF
742 Adam Dunn OF
5908
What strikes me is that neither the Windmills or the Mashers have a 900-point player. Whereas the Khans have FOUR players with 900-points.
900+ players:
0: Mashers
4: Khans
0: Windmills
800+ players:
1: Mashers
1: Khans
0: Windmills
I will tell you this much about the projections.
Sub-700 point players:
1: Mashers
4: Khans
7: Windmills
Oh look, you are not responding to any of my smack talk about A.J. Pierzynski. That's right, you are speechless. Instead of the Khans, your team name should be the Pierzynskhans.
I finally had my first big game. 54 points to the Khans and Windmills 20 and 20. That's the highest point total for one team so far. The Khans and the Windmills both got 46 in one game.
ORDER CHANGE:
3/31 Mashers start off in lead.
Mashers 34
Khans 31
Windmills 20
ORDER CHANGE:
4/1 Khans take over 1st
Khans 65
Mashers 56
Windmills 36
ORDER CHANGE:
?/? At some point within the week, the Windmills took over 2nd.
ORDER CHANGE:
4/9 Mashers take over 2nd, thanks to their 54-point game and Pujols' 2-HR 18-point game.
Khans 309
Mashers 279
Windmills 258
You can change the league name from "Pick up Pierzynski & you lose" back to "Maldre League Baseball". I dropped the punkface and I'm not even starting him today. Pierzynski managed to start just one game for me and put up a meager 2 points.
Oh hahaha! i'm so funny changing the name of our league. I was waiting for you to notice. Oh that A.J. Pierzynski. Did anyone on your team punch him in the face?
I almost have my entire fantasy team in Facebook baseball cards. I just have to sell the Carlos Zambrano. I'm shocked it's not selling. I'm selling it $25 cheaper than everyone else, which is $25 less than the last sold Zambrano card. I still have to get the Pujols card. Which is currently selling for about $110. That's just overpriced. So the value of my team is $994. I'd like to see how that changes throughout the season. Or maybe I'll just lose interest, because the the maintenance time.
Three guys with hamstring problems:
Reyes received treatment on his strained left hamstring
Carlos Guillen (hamstring) returned to the lineup April 14 after he missed two games with a mild hamstring strain.
Adrian Beltre was back in the lineup after missing Sunday's game with a right hamstring problem.
And then two with other problems:
Soriano says he's not yet 100 percent, but he finally feels normal again running the bases, eight months after tearing his right quadriceps
Pujols: elbow
you knew you were buying damaged good when you drafted Pujols. I'll give you Reyes. He's considered a premier SS. As is Soriano.
Guillen and Beltre? gimme a break. Those are players you pick up and drop like a basketball. They're scrubs. You really can't use them as an excuse for an injury bug.
Remember where my team was last season? Here's a comment I left on July 27, 2007:
"first I lost Ryan Howard at the beginning of the season. Then I lost Joe Mauer for a couple months. Then, Mark Texieria was hot for about month and gets injured for 3+ months (still on DL). Now my team MVP, Chase Utley, is out for at least a month with a hand injury."
KRIS, normally you can assign a player to the DL, but i forgot to include that in the league again this year. So we are on an honor system. If one of your players ends up on the DL, you can drop the player, and erik and i won't pick him up. But once the player is off the DL, you have to pick that player back up.
Soriano is on the DL now, so i'm dropping him. So Erik and you are not allowed to pick him up. But once Soriano comes back to play, i HAVE to pick him back up.
ANOTHER INJURY
Youkilis was replaced in the lineup by Jed Lowrie after fouling a ball off his foot in the sixth inning of Wednesday night's game against the Yankees, the Boston Globe reports.
Just curious... How long are you requiring a team to keep a player after they come back from the DL.
What if the player stinks after coming back and the team wants to get rid of him. Are they required to keep him for a certain amount of time before they can drop him?
Posted by: Mark R on Apr 17, 08 | 11:21 am
oh the team has to pick the player up, technically even before the player plays another game. This DL issue happened last year too, and sometimes we didn't catch that a player was back until they played a game. Let's say the player sucked it up that game, and the team doesn't want him anymore. That team would have to announced that the player is available to everyone. Basically we are on an honor system here. It helps that there are only 3 teams.
ORDER CHANGE:
The Mashers move into first place with the season's first 60+point game by one team.
Mighty Mashers 858 66 3 18
Amazing Khans 846 32 4 20
Windmills 787 26 2 1
Hey Erik, didn't I tell you yesterday that i had the feeling that my team would get the season's first 60+ point game! And they did!
I took all the comments from 2007 and 2006 and pulled out the 60+ point games:
That's 30 times over two seasons with two teams. So that means about 7.5 times per team per year. So each team should have a 60+ game 1.25 times every month.
12: 2006 Khans
4: 2006 Mashers
No wonder i lost the 2006 season. You had eight more 60+ games. That's 240 points (considering the average 60+ game is 67 points, and the average game 37 points). You won that season by 327 points. So your 240 points from those monster games is certainly a good chunk.
7: 2007 Khans
7: 2007 Mashers
This season was super close, hence the same number of 60+ games by both teams.
Also, we didn't quite record what the other team got during a 60-point game. There's only been a few:
Ut oh. We have our first 100-point lead of the season. The Khans are now 106 points over the Windmills.
Amazing Khans 1018 38 4 27
Mighty Mashers 985 24 3 18
Windmills 912 34 2 1
If you take all the major league teams, and figure out how many fantasy points they have and multiply it by 0.875 (cuz they have 9 man rosters, where we have 8), then the Cubs would be the best fantasy team this year with our equivalent of 1040 points. The worst would be the Twins with 802 points. The Diamondbacks are the second best tesam with 1030.
The team with the most fantasy points in one year is the 2004 Boston Red Sox with 6565 points. So far we've had six of our teams get more points than that.
So wait a minute. You're saying the Cubs have more fantasy points than any of our teams? So, if I had the Cubs' starting lineup instead of my lineup, I'd have more points? That's really something else.
Looks like the Khans are going to live and die with the ups and downs of David Ortiz. It's been very interesting watching Ortiz's performance since this is the first year he's been allowed in our league. He seems to either have really big games or really terrible games. Nothing in between.
i have the four hottest first basemen in baseball and two of them I have starting at other positions. So I'm actually starting the three hottest first basemen in baseball.
Lance Berkman 68 points in the last week
(Hou - 1B,OF)
Ya gotta love the position players who are qualified to play multiple positions. It makes your life as a fantasy owner so much easier to have those kinds of players. I remember having Miguel Cabrera when he was with the Marlins several years ago, he was qualified to like 3-4 positions which allowed me to keep him in the lineup for almost the entire season.

Man, I come back from San Francisco and the Khans are now nearly 100 points ahead of me. I got some major catching up to do!
Amazing Khans 1380 52 4 35
Mighty Mashers 1284 29 3 22
Windmills 1160 19 2 1
