You're right, Tom. The cups help give a sense of scale. And they help pull out the red core thing on the Death Star watermelon.

Where is Grand Moff Tarkin?

Did you know that the costume boots they gave Grand Moff Tarkin for Star Wars (1977) were too small and hurt his feet. Grand Moff Tarkin told George Lucas this, and asked if he could wear slippers instead. Lucas agreed, and shot Grand Moff Tarkin from the waist up for nearly all his scenes to compensate for Grand Moff Tarkin's slippers.
