architecture than challenges physics Part II

A few months ago I blogged about how the Take Capital Gate by RMJM in Abu Dhabi challenges mother nature. Forget that. The proposed Art Museum Strongoli in Calabria, Italy by Coop Himmelb(l)au with it's cantilever shape will shove mother nature to the floor and say mean things to her. Just look at that thing! YIKES MOOSE!

Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. This monstrosity is a great example of this. It's an eyesore and looks horribly out of place.

Mother Nature has the final word with architecture like this. And those words aren't gonna be very kind.

I take it you don't like Frank Gehry's architecture, Mark. I don't have a problem with the design. It shares some organic similarities with its environment, yet its metal exterior shines like a gem atop its pedestal; a gem that's gonna crash with great fury in future years. Isn't it not unusual for earthquakes to occur in Italy?

I don't really know Frank Gehry from Frank Viola (former major league pitcher, World Series MVP and AL Cy Young award winner), but I do know that the design shown above is an eye sore and totaly disrupts the flow of the natural environment surrounding it. It sticks out like a sore thumb, and that thumb needs to be amputated.

If the structure were placed in a more urban or modern setting, I don't think I would have a problem with it.
