I wish that was a requirement. I've had a few amazing teachers over the years, a bunch of so-so teachers, and a few that must have just woke up one day and thought "I don't know anything about this.. maybe I should go teach it!"

Just because you know or understand something, doesn't mean you can teach it effectively though.

I've known people with Ph D's in their particular field who couldn't teach if their life depended upon it.
