do spiders crawl or climb?

"The itsy bitsy spider crawled up the water spout" or "The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout"?

I always thought it was "crawl".

crawl is too creepy. It's totally climbed. Crawl impllies that the spider is gonna attack and eat someone.

Here is what Wikipedia had to say...

There are various versions of the lyrics:

The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout.
Down came the rain, and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun, and dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again.
(Some versions have climbed instead of went.)

I wonder if that's the original lyrics from 1962.
