I was trying to find an image on my computer for today’s blog post, but freakin’ Panther’s fancy seach tool sucks. I miss the old-fashioned, simple “find file” from the OS 9 days.
I like the default to be searching by file name, but Panther’s stupid default is searching by content. It’s supposed to be fast. Yea, it can be fast finding its results, but it takes me 10 times as long to scroll through what I’m looking for, especially when the search term happens to be used in my bookmarks. For some reason, Panther likes to keep something like 15 million copies of my bookmarks so they can clog up my search results. Sure, I can play with the pull-down menus to search only in “keywords”. But, I thought this tool was supposed to be fast and easy (like Find File). Wrong.
Forget about trying to stop a search with another search. The spinning beach ball of death will monopolize your finder.
The old Find File let you just click on other mounted volume’s right there in the interface. Panther’s search tool makes you click on the poorly labeled “Other…” button to get to the mounted volumes. Terrible design. Terrible interface. Overengineered piece of crap.
What is that “piece of junk” font?
Sweet! Thanks! I’m a bit of font head … OK, who am I kidding, I LOVE fonts!
