2008 Fantasy Baseball Talk

Every year my twin brother and I have a fantasy baseball league with just the two of us going back to 1992 (with a break from 1994-1999). Every year we alternate who wins, except last year I broke the streak. I am the first person to win back-to-back seasons! Thank you! Thank you! Please hold your applause for I have even greater news.

The 2008 season is featuring the first ever team expansion (besides the 1993 addition of Rob Frey). Please welcome our sister, Kristina to the league.

Below is a list of the championship seasons
1992 erik
1993 matt
2000 erik
2001 matt (I drop Bonds right before he goes on his monster 73 homer tear. whoops.)
2002 erik
2003 matt (I got married two months after our draft. I was distracted.)
2004 erik (Darth Pujols and Barry Bonds carried my team. I gave in to the Dark Side and won.)
2005 matt (I was leaving for London the day we had our draft. Another major distraction.)
2006 erik (The Ryan Howard Explosion. I predicted he would win the homer title before the season when he was an unknown.)
2007 erik (I supposed to lose this season. It came down to the final day of the season. I had a baby girl born in the summer which should have been enough distraction for me to lose. She must be a lucky charm.)
2008 WHO WILL WIN?

This is the place where we will have our talk about the league. Feel free to listen in, or maybe even drop a comment.

I have your answer. I, Matt Maldre, owner of the Mighty Mashers will win in 2008. Let’s not even bother playing the rest of the season out.

After doing a quick review of the rosters, my initial response was that the Khans would win handily.

However, I might be changing my mind on that after giving it more thought.

Keep in mind that I haven’t played fantasy baseball in a few years and don’t track stats so my prediction may not be worth a thing.

Let it be known to the world that the Khans have picked up A.J. Pierzynski. I feel so dirty saying that.

Let it be known that A.J. Pierzynski will forever be associated with the Khans. Where is A.J.’s wikipedia page? He should have that on there.

in your list of championship seasons, you put an excuse behind why you lost every year. Why don’t you have an excuse for why you won the years that you won?

Oh look, you are not responding to any of my smack talk about A.J. Pierzynski. That’s right, you are speechless. Instead of the Khans, your team name should be the Pierzynskhans.

I finally had my first big game. 54 points to the Khans and Windmills 20 and 20. That’s the highest point total for one team so far. The Khans and the Windmills both got 46 in one game.

3/31 Mashers start off in lead.
Mashers 34
Khans 31
Windmills 20

ORDER CHANGE:
4/1 Khans take over 1st
Khans 65
Mashers 56
Windmills 36

ORDER CHANGE:
?/? At some point within the week, the Windmills took over 2nd.

ORDER CHANGE:
4/9 Mashers take over 2nd, thanks to their 54-point game and Pujols’ 2-HR 18-point game.

Oh hahaha! i’m so funny changing the name of our league. I was waiting for you to notice. Oh that A.J. Pierzynski. Did anyone on your team punch him in the face?

I almost have my entire fantasy team in Facebook baseball cards. I just have to sell the Carlos Zambrano. I’m shocked it’s not selling. I’m selling it $25 cheaper than everyone else, which is $25 less than the last sold Zambrano card. I still have to get the Pujols card. Which is currently selling for about $110. That’s just overpriced. So the value of my team is $994. I’d like to see how that changes throughout the season. Or maybe I’ll just lose interest, because the the maintenance time.

I just re-read my comment. How crazy is that? Collecting a fantasy team with fantasy facebook cards.

Mashers are injury prone this year

Three guys with hamstring problems:
Reyes received treatment on his strained left hamstring
Carlos Guillen (hamstring) returned to the lineup April 14 after he missed two games with a mild hamstring strain.
Adrian Beltre was back in the lineup after missing Sunday’s game with a right hamstring problem.

And then two with other problems:
Soriano says he’s not yet 100 percent, but he finally feels normal again running the bases, eight months after tearing his right quadriceps
Pujols: elbow

Yeah. Hobbling along.

The Khans made two shocking moves.
1) They picked up my boy, Jason Bay.
2) They dropped Fukudome!

KRIS, normally you can assign a player to the DL, but i forgot to include that in the league again this year. So we are on an honor system. If one of your players ends up on the DL, you can drop the player, and erik and i won’t pick him up. But once the player is off the DL, you have to pick that player back up. Soriano is on the DL now, so i’m dropping him. So Erik and you are not allowed to pick him up. But once Soriano comes back to play, i HAVE to pick… Read more »

ANOTHER INJURY
Youkilis was replaced in the lineup by Jed Lowrie after fouling a ball off his foot in the sixth inning of Wednesday night’s game against the Yankees, the Boston Globe reports.

Just curious… How long are you requiring a team to keep a player after they come back from the DL.

What if the player stinks after coming back and the team wants to get rid of him. Are they required to keep him for a certain amount of time before they can drop him?

Matt Maldre
Admin

oh the team has to pick the player up, technically even before the player plays another game. This DL issue happened last year too, and sometimes we didn’t catch that a player was back until they played a game. Let’s say the player sucked it up that game, and the team doesn’t want him anymore. That team would have to announced that the player is available to everyone. Basically we are on an honor system here. It helps that there are only 3 teams.

If you take all the major league teams, and figure out how many fantasy points they have and multiply it by 0.875 (cuz they have 9 man rosters, where we have 8), then the Cubs would be the best fantasy team this year with our equivalent of 1040 points. The worst would be the Twins with 802 points. The Diamondbacks are the second best tesam with 1030.

Matt Maldre
Admin

The team with the most fantasy points in one year is the 2004 Boston Red Sox with 6565 points. So far we’ve had six of our teams get more points than that.

Matt Maldre
Admin

I even forgot to factor in that the Cubs only play 161 games a year, whereas our teams play 180.

But the Cubs are guaranteed of having all their players start. We often have someone sitting on the bench.

ORDER CHANGE:
Mashers climb back into first with a 57 point thrash.
